Underground Art Concepts 2009 Apparel

Posted in Artwork, Graphic Design, Products, UAC Updates on May 26, 2009 by bendey14

280Anyone want any UAC gear?  I finally got around to uploading some the new logo for Underground Art Concepts and creating a new set of 2009 shirts.  All the tees are printed on 100% cotton American Apparel shirts and use “flex-print”.  This means that they aren’t silk-screened using inks/paints, but the graphic is essentially one big smooth piece of a latex type of material.

All the goods can be seen and ordered at the UAC Shop.

Now I know they’re a little expensive…but it’s the best I can do.  But the ability to customize any article of clothing is an added bonus.  If you want a certain color scheme…or would prefer to have these graphics applied to an apron or a hoody, just let me know.  The possibilities are endless!  Here are a few examples/close-ups of the tee graphics:

Due to the enormous volume of possibilites and options that comes with the production of these shirts, I’ve outsourced them to be printed by a separate company.  Hopefully in a short while I’ll have the resources (and space) to print them on my own, but until then I’m afraid you’re going to have to deal with the middle-man.  Sorry!

It’s going to cost you some coin, but they make a damn fine shirt though.  Plus, I design everything so you know they’re not too bad!

Here’s the link again UAC Shop.  Any custom requests?  Just email me (mbender@undergroundartconcepts.com).  It wont cost any extra and it should be ready that same day.

Skate Vids

I’m a sucker for slow motion and high-speed HD cameras.  I could seriously watch them all day every day.  Here are a couple skate videos with said goods that have been blowing my mind lately.  The first one is a trailer for P.Rod’s “Proof” by the Hundreds which is pretty cool, I’m definitely diggin’ the soundtrack.  The second one is definitely worth checking out.  I think it’s a promo vid for Lakai directed by Spike Jonze.  I’m not sure if this is part of a trailer or not, but whatev… I would pay good money to see more of this stuff. Make sure you watch the whole thing!

I know it’s a little long, but if you sleep on this one, you’re going to be very disappointed.

Wale Does Detroit

IMG_4572Me and the fellas made a trip out to Detroit last night to get in on the Attention Deficit Tour with Wale and Colin Munroe.  Not only did we have plans to get a full course meal of DC’s own, we figured we’d wash it down with the Finally Famous after party over at Majestic with Big Sean and Drake.  Seeing how Drake’s riding off the success of my recent artwork (or maybe it’s me riding off his success?  yea, sounds ’bout right haha) I figured we’d have a pretty good chance at getting in if I ran into the right people.

Wale, Colin, Drake, Big Sean, One Be Lo, and rumors of Common, Asher, and Cudi being in town?!  Wings pull out the victory earlier in the night too?!  One epic night is beginning to unfold before us my friends… or is it?

We get to the Shelter (8 mile), which I’ve never been to before, and I immediately am reminded of Rick’s American Cafe here in East Lansing.  It’s small, it’s dark, and you feel like you might contract AIDS off the floor if you’re not wearing proper footwear.  Lucky your boy had on his DVS’s.  First up was Octane.  Never heard of him, but he damn near killed it.

Next up was One Be Lo whom I have heard of.  He did alright, but not as good as I expected.  I’ve heard quite a few of his tracks, but haven’t seen him live, maybe I was expecting something different, but whatev, it was good to see Detroit’s still goin’ hard.

Despite being told Big Sean was up next, it was Colin Munroe.  A little disappointed?  Yeah.  Pissed off?  Nah.  Munroe brought it even though his mic was effed.  After a short set, it was Wale’s turn.  He comes up on stage in the middle of a Twitter post on his Blackberry and I couldn’t help myself but to laugh…cuz shit…I’ll admit it…I follow him.  I know the fellas over at Code 2 do as well, and don’t act like that shit ain’t hilarious (where you at Royal).

Wale did pretty sick.  Nothing spectacular, but the venue made it worth it.  The intimacy the Shelter provides is perfect.  It wasn’t a 50 dollar show at the United Center…it was what hip hop was meant to be.  A bunch of die hard fans and a passionate artist gettin’ crazy in a mildew infested basement in the heart of downtown Detroit.  If that ain’t hip hop…someone tell me what is.

Although my camera completely sucked it’s battery pack dry 5 min. into the set, my boy DKA was able to pull through and document a bit of history.  Here’s some of the gold…

Oh yea, peep this before I forget http://www.zshare.net/audio/553586987d875073/ (the perks to following Wale on Twitter)

The show finally got over at about 12:30 am and it looked like the after party at Majestic was going to be a bit over our heads.  Octane did throw out the invite to us outside…but some teamsters over here had to work in the morning and I only had $15 cash on me…maybe next time.  If anyone went, shoot me any photos you got!  (Zeph, i’m lookin’ at you son.)

Peace

So I’ve been waiting patiently for my Macbook Pro to arrive…

The Apple Store claims to have it in your possession within 3-5 business days.  2 weeks have gone by since placing my order back in April.  Upon making a threatening call to John at Apple customer service, he informed me it would be here no later than Thursday (today).  Well John, despite wanting to carve your face up with my car keys, I have to thank you.  Because instead of drooling over my slick new Macbook for the past week and probably getting absolutely nothing important done, I’ve been vibin’ to Charles Hamilton’s entire discography, which has inevitably inspired me to do this…

All you readers are probably pretty familiar with my “Portraits of a Voice” collection of hip-hop inspired artwork lately.  This of course, is the newest installment of said collection with an acrylic painted center featuring Charles Hamilton himself with the lyrics to “Most Likely To Succeed” off “DJ Skee Presents: The Best Of The Hamiltonization Process”.

I figured I’d switch it up a bit and go with the black background for Sir Charles.  Mostly because of the pink color I knew I’d be using from the start.  Deciding which song to type up was a challenge since there’s so many tracks I’m currently in love with.  This kid’s got skill.  Like natural-born skill.  He makes it look easy and in between the bite, he’s always got something important to say.  But yea, here it is.  Enjoy this shit.

PS to Charles Hamilton:  I couldn’t find an accurate or full set of these lyrics so I did my best in typing them up myself.  You might want to proof read this for me, haha.

Peace!

I came across this gem today during my daily stumble around the intranets.  And yes, this is an xbox controller made out of soap.  And if it weren’t already cool enough…it’s effing Mountain Dew scented.  Absolute genius.  All the xbox controllers here in my living room already have a sticky Mountain Dew residue between the buttons…glad to see someone had the clever idea of putting two and two together.

You’re probably thinking to yourself, “…cool idea Bendey, but I’m guessing it wouldn’t be the smartest idea in the world to actually brighten up my care package with that thing.”

But that’s where you’re wrong…this shit is for real!

Soap Ingredients:

· Coconut Oil
· Cocoa Butter
· Palm Oil
· Castor Oil
· Safflower Oil
· Glycerin (kosher, of vegetable origin)
· Purified Water
· Sodium Hydroxide (saponifying agent)
· Sorbitol (moisturizer)
· Sorbitan Oleate (emulsifier)
· Soy Bean Protein (conditioner)
· Titanium Dioxide (mineral whitener used in opaque soaps)
· Fragrance and color

Now I don’t know the first thing about soap…but I know for a fact that a shower isn’t really a shower unless it includes Sorbitan Oleate.

It was made by “DigitalSoaps” and can be picked up online at Etsy for 11 bucks.

And if Nintendo or Playstation is more your style, don’t worry, they’ve got you covered.

Artistic Ammunition

Just finished my latest sculpture earlier today.

As described in my previous post, it’s all about my love for music and art.  Music is undoubtedly where I pull a lot of inspiration from, and I wanted to develop a sculpture that illustrated that.  The mass of painted objects are all connected to music in some way.  Cd’s, records, tapes, ipod, stereo, etc.  The glass aquarium that holds everything is supposed to symbolize (my) the human mind.  A transparent shell that allows for things to pass in and out of it almost.  Some of the music objects in the sculpture have obviously been sawed in half and then placed up against the glass to show this free flow of inspiration.  The final piece is the incorporation of the word “LOVE” which can only be seen from certain angles.  Luckily, I’ve taken some pictures so you all can check ’em out.

Let me know what you think!

Here are a few more pics.  Turn up that music too and spread the love.
