The Perfect Color

I’ve been slaving over a ton of projects this week and am currently running on half a plate of pad thai and 4 Oberon’s, so this will be a short update.

I’ve been keeping this gig under wraps for a while because of the uncertainty behind the project, but looks like I’ve landed a page in a special creative book based out of Grand Rapids, MI.

I’m pretty stoked about it, especially because I’ll be featured among some really talented people/studios/agencies.

Ya’ll should see an update on this very soon…

…nah, screw it, I’m exhausted–here’s my page.  I’ll just explain it all later 🙂

Black Lab 5ive x UAC

Black Lab Five is a local advertising agency/design studio here in Kalamazoo, Michigan making big things happen with a total workforce of 3. I first caught word of them a few years ago while searching for internships when I used to spend my summers back home. >>Fast forward 3 years, and whaddaya know, I’m in the studio posting up for a few days helping them out with some really badass projects.  When I say “badass,” I’m talkin’ BEER, MEAT, TATTOOS, and CLOTHING.  Sounds like my wheelhouse, right?  Just stay tuned Undergrounders, big things are going down in the ‘Zoo.

Here’s a small sample of our latest work together; the 2010 posters for the Michigan Brewer’s Guild Summer Beer Festival.

Might be part of a few ads soon, all though I’m not sure where yet.  More beer work will follow!

The UAC Tabloid Project

So I was thinking the other day (yeah, I know, weird) and came to the decision that I was going to spend this week designing posters of my own favorite personal quotes.  By “personal quotes,” I mean the retarded stuff I tell myself when the going gets rough… or just phrases I think about that make me smile. I don’t want to release them all yet, but figured the 8 people that follow this blog could use a quick taste.

These 2 posters are meant to be viewed in succession and are my current favorites.  They also took a loooooong time to develop.  The random sketches are a ton of swatches I pulled from the margins of my high school/college notes over the years.  Hell, you might even see the earliest inspirations for some current paintings I’ve done!

Stay tuned for more…

Shepard Fairey – MAYDAY

Looks like Shepard Fairey is up to his old tricks again.  And when I say “tricks,” I mean pure artistical brilliance.

The MAYDAY exhibit will run from May 1st to May 29th at Deitch Projects in New York and will consist of a rather large collection of new artwork.  Here’s an excerpt from Shepard Fairey originally posted at World Famous Design Junkies: “These people I’m portraying were all revolutionary, in one sense or another. They started out on the margins of culture and ended up changing the mainstream. When we celebrate big steps that were made in the past, it reminds us that big steps can be made in the future.”

Here’s a sneak peak:

Simon Page Just Made My Head Explode [Part Two]

I promised a “Part Two” so here it is.  This set of Simon Page‘s work focuses on typographic years.  I used to do this stuff everyday in the margins of my notebook during my note-taking days; specifically with each days current date.  All of these are just so clean and dynamic, I love it.  This is how I’m going to start dating my checks from now on.

Once again, here’s where you can find him:

Simon Page Just Made My Head Explode [Part One]

Just caught some buzz about Simon Page, a self taught graphic designer based in the UK, so naturally I had to give him a look.  Like Simon, I’ve pretty much taught myself everything I know in the world of graphic design, but I might as well go back to drawing with crayons compared to this guy.  Simon’s work generally focuses on geometric design, typography art, and illustration.  For a few of these… it looks like it could have taken him a full year to design.  Here’s a handful of some of my faves.  Stay tuned for Part Two!

For more examples of Simon’s work check out his website @ or his iPhone friendly portfolio.
