Floppy Disk Paintings by Nick Gentry

Posted in Artwork, Products with tags , , , , , on March 15, 2010 by bendey14

Artist Nick Gentry has a beautiful collection of paintings.  At first glance, his work is stunning.  You notice the dynamic use of color, you notice the subtle rigidity of the floppy disks, the bits of bare metal still exposed, and so on.  But it’s after a few seconds of staring at a few pieces where you begin to see the detail.  Nick keeps each floppy disk alive as it’s own unique piece of the story.  Notice the way you can still read some of the labels, see the HP OfficeJet logos, and watch the colors of the plastic help paint (or break up) the rest of the painting.  Truly impressive.

Hu2 Decals Make My Domestic Goods Water

Posted in Graphic Design, Products with tags , , , , , , on February 16, 2010 by bendey14

For everyone familiar, you know I have a bit of a decal fetish.  They’re on the fridge, toilet, desk, printer, laptop, snowboard, and even the bedroom door.  But the decals they churn out over at Hu2 make mine look like nicotine patches.

Found this postfile over at Abduzeedo.  Loved the pics, so hit them up for the rest of the set, or even better–get to Hu2 Design’s main page and indulge for several hours.

I’m getting that pen tool out as we speak…

Clever Print Ad Round-Up

Posted in Creative Campaigns, Print with tags , , , , , , , on December 24, 2009 by bendey14

Genuinely funny or clever advertisements are hard to find these days.  Especially in print.  In comparison to it’s cousins (commercials, billboards, radio, etc); print ads are projected to be dying off.  Advertisers are lucky to get a reader to actually look at their ad, let alone read it.  With this obstacle in mind, I’ve collected a few print ads that keep the reader in mind… captivating visuals, sharp headlines/taglines, and a creative approach.  Enjoy! (I’ve included the text on some for easier reading, happy holidays VU).

A Breath of Fresh… Business Cards?

Posted in Artwork, Creative Campaigns, Graphic Design, Print, Products with tags , , , on September 30, 2009 by bendey14

10I was Stumbling earlier today and happened to strike gold.  Over at Web Designer Depot was a nice little enormous list of 100 creative business cards.  I’ve been thinking it’s about time I got a stack of real nice business cards.  I’ve taken the time to print off my own before, but they usually end up looking cheap and there’s only so much you can do with an inkjet p.o.s.  Now I just need to find a place that can print on slabs of beef jerky…

Here are a few of my favorites from the gallery.  You can check out the rest HERE.

Short Films and Viral Vids

Posted in Artwork, Commercials + Virals, Graphic Design with tags , , , , on January 12, 2009 by bendey14

Nothing is better at killing time than surfing the web and watching short films, virals, and even the occasional banned commercial.  While doing just that, I stumbled upon a sweet little creative studio put together by 3 friends all with a passion for animation and design.  It’s called 3 Legged Legs and it’s very obvious that in between working for clients, they seem to keep doing this stuff for fun.  After watching a bunch of their videos I found a couple that were    just    plain    awesome.

Ricochet:  [WARNING-  This one is pretty graphic in some parts, so if you’re not a fan of movies like Saving Private Ryan or Black Hawk Down…you might want to skip it.  And if you actually take my advice and decide to skip it…you’re totally lame.]

Humans:  This next one is also a little graphic, but it’s all cartoony.  Has a pretty thoughtful message too …so what’s not to love?
